OK, I've just sent a pull request to Konstantin with "Hide single tab" feature (configurable in preferences):

** Related: Show the title of the current tab in the Frame Title bar (so that even when the single tab is hidden we could see its title). Status: Work in progress.
* Hide menu. Should be pretty simple too.

OK, so the "show the current headword in the window's titlebar" is implemented and committed into the master branch.

Hide menu is in progress, I'm using Ctrl-M (the standard shortcut among KDE apps to hide menubar).

Here's how it looks like:

We're getting smaller and smaller! :) And it is all configurable, so for those who do wish to have menubars and tabs and sidebars, it is easy to enable.

The remaining 3 things (some are big):
* Eliminate the status bar (at least make it configurable), with small pop-up message, like in FF4/5 and Chrome.
* Redesign the translation sidebar (move it to a drop-down list, as suggested).
* Possibility to configure toolbars and to remove non-needed buttons.

These are all great news. GD is getting better and better!
In a not too distant future, we could have an option or wizard to change between full and compact view to set all these options in one step. I guess we should still support the current layout though.

I can't wait to have all these new functionality and the full-text search implemented.

Thanks!

This now works fine here, with my local changes, need to clean them up a bit before submitting the pull request.

Heh, then take a look at this pull request: https://github.com/goldendict/goldendict/pull/20

Tested on both Windows and Linux.

Plus, restored the status message at the startup, that lists the number of dictionaries, articles and headwords.

P.S. Might consider adding the status bar updates when hovering over WebKit links in the main view, that seems to be useful, and in line with typical browser functionality.

New UI tweak: Sync between current active article and the "found in dictionaries" pane, just committed.

Now when a user activates an article (by clicking on it, or by using Alt-Up/Down shortcuts), corresponding dictionary in the "found in dictionaries" pane is selected.

So, the sync now works in both directions: When users clicks on dictionary in the list, the corresponding article activates.

OK, I've re-implemented the status bar as an internal widget rather than a top-level border-less window. It should work much better on non-windows systems now.

Plus, some new features for the status bar: It can show images, can have rich-formatting an by default picks up the proper OS-specific font for the status bars.
