Can you please do something about the alignment/symmetry of icons of different dictionaries in the Dictionaries tab. As you can see from the picture, there are also some problems with spaces between lines of text (notice the large space between Webster's... and English Wikipedia). This also applies to Groups tab.

And here's a working prototype of the new UI (removed search pane and replaced it with Combo Box):

Comments?

I removed Save and Print buttons, those are very rarely used and available in the menu in those rare occasions. I'm not happy about the location of scan pop-up button. Maybe, it needs to be shifed back to the end of the toolbar...

Is it interface for palmtop? I think on normal size screen it is no needed to remove search pane. This pane is very useful for me.

Near to close button? ;) It is not good I think.

Its functionality will be provided by the combo box, with the drop-down suggestions list, just like in modern browsers.

Do you have any use cases that would not be possible (or will be less convenient) with this new combo box approach?

The main problem with the search pane is that it consumes lots of space (a third of the whole window) and mostly serves no active use.

Yes, it will be less convenient. Because combo box request extra mouse move and click to view results.

A third?? About 15% on my not very modern monitor. Your design will be useful for small monitors only.
