Popup window doesn't work with the recent Acrobat Reader versions, unfortunately. This is a common problem for many other dictionary programs as well.

There are some attempts to improve the situation, using various approaches (from screen image captures and text recognition to use rather obscure accessibility technologies API).

The main problem lies not really in GoldenDict. It's just Acrobat Reader doesn't supply to us the word under cursor.

Personally, I use Control-C-C shortcut to invoke the popup manually, and it works just fine with Acrobat Reader too. And it's not much more complicated compared to using automatic scan pop-up, and *much*, much more reliable.
