Full search, DSL, word-list restriction...
Posted: Mon Mar 19, 2012 4:06 pmAfter years of more or less efficient experience with Babylon Glossary Builder's full search capabilities, I have finally altogether switched to DSL frustratingly simple, but effective way of manipulating glossary/dictionary/lexicon content. Of course, the main reason for my migration is in GoldenDict's fascinating freedom of UI customization, compared to Bab's rigid interface.
So, I segment the dictionary's right side into a word-list of simple reusable one or more word items, as well as of more complex idiomatic expressions, thus making a rather huge list of so-called "synonyms" which can be put on the left side, before the indented right side (definition, explanation), making good use of DSL formatting options. Here, the absence of a strict sgml or xml structure syntax is, in fact, its beauty and advantage …
In this way, I can quickly search for items which are part of the main dictionary body, but serve, at the same time, as searchable analogies, synonyms, keys, links. As in some kind of FULL-TEXT search.
Now, why am I talking about that? Left side columns take time to build and are cumbersome, yes, and a real pain to look at. I can live with that, so that's not the problem. (I even made the ".dsl_headwords" look as unobtrusive as possible in the "article-style.css" file …)
However, I noticed that the same DSL file (comprised of several hundred lines long analogies / synonyms) works fine and flawlessly in mobile Android GoldenDict, while, in Windows platform GoldenDict (b. 239), some LONGER articles fail to show up. In both cases, there are no indexing issues.
I confess, I haven't researched exhaustively on the subject and I haven't even counted* the total number of each definition's search items. Can somebody explain to me if there are any limitations of this kind in Lingvo DSL rules?

PS. I have one additional question. One can put up to 32.759 characters in one cell in Excel: is there a way to circumvent this restriction other than splitting the text? Thanks.
* Update: If I'm not mistaken, there can be exactly 31 searchable items (synonyms) in the desktop Windows version, while the mobile android one on my tablet manages to execute an instant search through the entire bonfire of some 600+ (sic!) synonyms of one right-side definition article (Middle match deepness set to: 5 in GD settings). There are some 3800 dictionary articles in my glossary draft.
