Any specific plan for the wildcard and full-text search?

Postby hanyl05 » Mon Jan 14, 2013 8:28 am

Hi, great man,
Any specific plan for the wildcard and full-text search function?
We have been expecting this function for more than TWO years.

Wish GD possess this magic function in the near future!

The search functionality is quite complicated and its proper implementation would require quite significant amount of personal time and efforts. And so far nobody seriously worked on this feature. GoldenDict is a volunteer project, nobody gets paid for developing and maintaining it, everything is being done via personal efforts. Somebody who is *really* missing this feature would need to step up and implement it. :)

Thank you very much for your comment and very gratitude for your effort on Goldendict.
Personally, the search function (wildcard and full-text) of Stardict (also a free software maintained by Mr. Hu from China) is far better than Goldendict. But GD support more dictionaries than stardict, and the interface is more friendly to use on windows than stardict.
GD now has the free and premium versions on android platform, and I suppose that similar commercial models can also be implemented for windows platform. Consider current version as the free version, and version with the advanced search functions as the premium version. Anyhow, maintain a good software is a pretty time-consuming job and the contributor(s) should be compensated in some way.

full-text search for me is not very important

but wildcard is very important for me as an English learner .because I don't know the right spelling of words
I hope that this function is in GD

Wildcard search is easier to implement so if anything is going to change then this is the first search-related feature to be implemented. :)
