auto focus and select word entry if GD window gets focus

Postby monachus » Fri Jun 03, 2011 11:34 am

Hello,

I would find the following small feature very helpful:

As soon as you switch to the GD window (e.g. by ALT+Tab) the word entry field gets focus and any written word inside is selected (to be rapidly overwritten).

This saves the extra press of the ESC-key (a feature especially newbies don't even know about... (as well due to the 'scarce' documentation - or is there something I overlooked?)).

Thanks to all working on this really helpful piece of software.

If I'm not mistaken, GD *already* works like that. Just switch to GoldenDict (via Alt-Tab) and start typing. :)

Thanks! You are right!
As the text in the word entry field was not highlighted and the cursor not visible I did not realize this.
(I thought, the focus is still somewhere else, usually in the word selection pane, where the last selected word was still highlighted, which it was not anymore as soon as I clicked into the word entry field...)
Making this cool feature more visible and intuitive I would still find helpful for newbies.

Have a good day,

ESC is probably not the most intuitive key for this kind of action, yeah. I tend to use Enter, plain and simple (and much closer to my fingers compared to ESC).

When you press Enter, then the currently entered text in the search bar will be selected and highlighted, just as you like it. :)
