Great work as always, thanks, :).

Comments?

I removed Save and Print buttons, those are very rarely used and available in the menu in those rare occasions. I'm not happy about the location of scan pop-up button. Maybe, it needs to be shifed back to the end of the toolbar...

A working prototype?! I would love to try it and see how GoldenDict uses a combo box for multiple dictionaries (or you could make a screenshot). I am for the removal of the three zoom buttons on the right of the 'address' bar and maybe the introduction of a menu button in order to get rid of the menu bar (too much like Lingo?).

But why mouse move and click? When you start typing anything in the translate line, the drop-down list automatically opens.

I dunno. I actually have 3-monitor setup, all monitors are 26", 1920x1600, and I still find it nice when application don't consume more space than they really need to! 8-)

This combo box is just for suggestions, presented by GoldenDict. Previously (currently) such role performed the search side-bar, now I'm trying to move those suggestions from the sidebar to the drop-down list:

Well, yeah, I don't really use those buttons too. And I don't see them in browsers. But maybe somebody really needs those buttons. :) Ideally, we should have an UI to adjust toolbar buttons, but that would require some more work.

What if you needs to view some similar words or word combinations translation step-by-step?

This pane is needed not for application but for user! ;)

Yes. As in browsers. ;)

Looks neat! The combo box pops down automatically, right? If so, both my thumbs up.
I'd say the scan pop-up button is a bit out of place to the left of the combo-box

While this is all very exciting, please don't just remove the old panel permanently. It should be available for the people who are used to it. (You can make it such that when you hide the panel, the combo appears, and vice versa). Same goes about the toolbar buttons - just create another separate toolbar containing only those rarely used buttons.

Got it. I moved the zooming buttons into separate toolbar, and will make the code work in both modes, plain "old" and exciting new :)

Here's the latest working version:

And for those who enjoy minimalism:

P.S. If somebody wants to try it out, just let me know, and I'll post the binary for testing purposes, while I cleanup the code. :)

Near to close button? ;) It is not good I think.

It's not because it is near to the close button, but because this scan pop-up toggle button is typically used very rarely. A user either has the pop-up enabled or has it disabled, but probably not jumping back and forth all the time. Hence, the button is moved from the center place to the right. :)
